What does it mean when I have no ores in my world

So I made a world on Minecraft, I was playing on Xbox with the aquatic addition one. It was peaceful and had no cheats so I could get achievements. When I joined I was on a island and had no ores, So I made a boat out of wood to go explore. I made it to a normal part and found many caves, which had no ores. I have gone down to bedrock and have found no ores. What does it mean? I spent maybe 4 hours on the island where I spawned. I also found some red stone tourches on the ground in a cave. Is it a glitch?
